Incorporated in 1959, originally serving the local
textile companies in West Yorkshire.
We have considerable experience in fibre composition analysis of all forms
of textiles, this expertise has been developed from analysis of many forms
of textile waste over a number of years, some of the samples tested often
contained 10 different fibres. Some of the techniques for fibre identification
have been developed by ourselves, due to the introduction and more widespread
use of new specialist high performance fibres, which are not covered by the
relevant British and European Standards.
Increasing demand for performance testing of yarns and fabrics has resulted
in our investing in new equipment to carry out a range of physical and colour
fastness tests. The introduction of The Furniture & Furnishings (Fire)
(Safety) Regulations 1988 has resulted in ASL developing the necessary expertise
and experience in this field and offering a fast, reliable service for the
relevant fire safety tests.
We also cover a variety of tests on raw wool including scoured yield, moisture
regain, extactable matter, fibre diameter determinations by projection microscope
or airflow techniques and the taking of core samples from wool bales for subsequent
analysis.
As members of the BSI we receive monthly updates of all changes to British,
BS EN and BS EN ISO Standards, and maintain our Standards accordingly, we
offer a fast and reliable testing service at a reasonable cost.
Expert witness statement reports for legal cases involving driving whilst
over the prescribed limit for alcohol can be provided by B.
Rodney Smith. The calculations for these are performed using a computer
program developed in house by Philip.
J. Addinell to give accurate and quick calculated breath/blood alcohol
levels using either the Widmark or Total Body Water equations.
The results for Fibre Compostion and Wool Fibre diameter together with the
associated fibre diagram are calculated and printed using our own specially
developed software to give accurate and quick results from the analysis figures,
most of the other test results involving calculations are also processed by
modules from the same program.
